Zhuhai Municipal People's Government and UIC signed a cooperation agreement on the morning of 30 June. Deputy Secretary of the CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee and Mayor of Zhuhai, Mr Yao Yisheng, attended the ceremony and stressed the importance of promoting the innovative development of higher institutions like UIC.
Zhuhai Deputy Mayor Mr Yan Wu and Secretary of the UIC Party Committee, Vice President (Administration) Prof Mao Yaqing signed the agreement as Mr Yao Yisheng and President of UIC Prof Tang Tao were among the witnesses to the signing. Director of Municipal Bureau of Education, Lin Rituan was the host of the ceremony.
Zhuhai is currently participating in the construction and rapid development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The government hopes that UIC's high-level second-phase construction could provide intellectual benefits for the economic and social development of the Zhuhai Special Economic Zone.

Deputy Mayor Mr Yan Wu explained that UIC has become an important representative of Zhuhai’s higher institutions over the past 15 years since it was established. Zhuhai Municipal People's Government and UIC’s further collaboration will not only facilitate UIC’s development but also benefit Zhuhai by cultivating high-level talents, advancing the industrial transformation and upgrading, and contributing to the regional innovation system.

President Tang pointed out that a university should aim to build a world-class institution, with the priority of cultivating talents that serve society during his speech. For many years, UIC has integrated its resources to participate in Zhuhai's economic and social development and will continue its efforts in the future.

Other attendees included Director of Administration Committee of Zhuhai National Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, Mr Su Hu, as well as essential members from municipal bureaus responsible for technology and innovation, industry and information technology, natural resources sector etc.

UIC will implement the highest of standards when planning, designing and constructing its second-phase campus. With the ancient Huitong Village nearby, a unique university town will be forming.
